Retiring a term

Some lessons are tagged Measure, others Measuring. Ben wants everyone to use Measuring, without taking Measure off the lessons that have it.

He retires Measure, naming Measuring as its replacement. A retired term stays on the lessons that have it, marked as retired, and searches still find them, but no one can add it to a lesson again. Before retiring a term, a maintainer can see where it's used.

Try it: read why Measure is retired, then find it on Halving a Recipe.

If you tried this

Retiring is the gentle first stage: no lesson changes, and writers who reach for the old term are pointed to the new one. A retired term can be brought back. Retiring a term retires the terms under it too; bringing it back brings back that term alone.
