Publishing an outline

Step 1 of 4 in Publishing an outline

Sample data, read from content-sdk

A row waits for the unit above it

Ben is adding a new topic to History: Topic B, with Lesson 2 and its Teach Book. Lesson 2 Teach Book is finished and published, so Ben would like Lesson 2 in front of readers now, before the rest of Topic B is ready.

Readers find a row by going down the outline, so they can reach a row only through units they can see. That's why a row can't be published until the unit above it is. While Topic B isn't published, publishing Lesson 2 on its own is refused.

Try it: compare Module 1 in the two columns, then select Lesson 2 Teach Book as editors see it.

Publishing Lesson 2 of History, on its own

Lesson 2 can't be published yet

Topic B, the unit it's in, isn't published, so readers couldn't reach Lesson 2. Publish Topic B first, or publish Topic B and Lesson 2 together.

What Ben would be told on publishing Lesson 2 while Topic B isn't published.

If you tried this

Lesson 2 Teach Book is published as a resource, but its row in History isn't, and neither is anything above it. Readers get a resource in an outline only through its row, so for History's readers it isn't there yet. When Topic B is ready, publish it with the rows inside it, top down or all together.
